Liquid intake should be increased: One should drink 8-10 glasses of water every day. Intake of fluid softens the stool and allows it to pass easily.

Intake of medicines: Constipation is also caused by constant use of certain medicines. Iron and calcium supplement lead to constipation. Painkillers also cause constipation because they kill good bacteria along with bad bacteria. Good bacteria help in digestion.

Lack of physical activity and exercise: Constipation is due to lack of physical activity and exercise. Exercise keeps one physically and mentally free so that a person can lead healthy life.

Cure for constipation

Fruits like bael are very effective in constipation. They help in cleaning the system.

A glass of warm milk helps in constipation.

Lemon juice in warm water helps in keeping the bowel movement regular.

Aloe Vera is very useful in constipation. If it is taken three to four times regularly it helps in cleaning the intestine and maintaining proper bowel movement.

Including fiber in ones diet is also very helpful in curing constipation. Grains like wheat, maize, jowar and bajra contain fiber. Bajra is also known as pearl millet. It is main food crop in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana in India. The roti or chapati made from bajra is very famous. It contains iron, copper, Vitamin B and E complex and amino acid. It is good for bones and makes body strong. It helps a lot in constipation.

But at times it should be avoided because of its iron content. Many people feel constipated when they take iron. Especially during pregnancy females feel constipated by taking iron supplements. Therefore one should restrict the use of bajra.
